Guru Nanak Dev Ji and the miracle of the freshwater spring

The guru travelled far and wide in his lifetime. There were places where he was greeted with open arms, and the kindness and warm that a human heart is capable of. Poor people shared their meagre supply of food and drink with him, regardless of the difficulties and hardships that plagued them. There were also people who refused to give a cup of water to a weary traveller.
The guru had journeyed into a wealthy landowners field. He asked the landowner for a cup of water to quench his thirst. The landowner refused. The guru travelled a little further and stopped. He then struck the ground with his walking stick, and miraculously from beneath the ground, a freshwater spring bubbled up to the surface. It was not about satisfying his thirst that the guru taught the landowner, rather it was about the inner heart of the landowner, that was so tainted with greed and status, that he could not even part with a single cup of water.
